What makes Argentina different
The square 4 × 4 cm format is distinctive to Argentina and is not interchangeable with the 35 × 45 mm used across most of the world — nor with the US 2 × 2 inches, which is close in shape but 1 cm larger. A photo prepared for a Schengen visa is the wrong shape for a DNI.

For the DNI and passport, RENAPER normally photographs you at the office itself. Printed 4 × 4 photos are mainly needed for consular procedures abroad and for paper-based paperwork, usually two at a time.

At 4 × 4 cm (40 × 40 mm), 6 photos fit on a single 4 × 6 inch print — the cheapest product at any kiosk or online print service, against a booth that charges for a set of four.
Print at actual size and turn off "fit to page", "scale to fit" and borderless printing. Each of those resizes the image by a few percent, which is enough to push the head outside the 26–32 mm chin to crown that RENAPER requires.
